Taking down the Christmas tree? Packing it all up for another year? Don't lose sight that it's a new year and time for new traditions. Channel your inner Gretzky or Lipinski and introduce your family to the world's largest zamboni-groomed outdoor rink just minutes from Denver -- Evergreen Lake.
This one is a memory-maker for sure but get there early. The parking is limited and unless you want to shuttle in, arrive by 10:30. Your family will want to make a day of it and though the Lake House offers a snack bar, let me suggest packing some hearty sandwiches and filling your thermos with hot cocoa. And, honestly, don't act like the soggy-bottomed teenagers and wear jeans. There are no walls at this rink so you have to pull up a snowbank to take a break. We found our ski pants to be the perfect pick.
Call the hotline before driving out as fluctuating temperatures and weather can affect the opening -- (720) 880-1300. And visit Evergreen Rec for pricing, parking and hours.
Triple Lutz anyone?
